This is Love Book Jackets

Podcasts turned book covers.

The Challenge

I was challenged to design cohesive book jackets that conceptually represented two stories from the podcast This is Love.

The Solution

I listened to the podcasts until I understood their narratives and themes. I word-mapped and explored concepts, focusing on pivotal characters guiding protagonists. Opting for minimalism, I made illustrations central, using paper cutouts and watercolor for playfulness, whimsy, and texture, aligning with the podcasts' themes.

BRAINSTORM PROCESS

I brainstormed and sketched until I identified promising concepts. Transitioning to Illustrator, I experimented with various styles, ultimately selecting one to replicate for the second book cover. I honed color schemes, typography, and made touch-ups in Photoshop to perfect the details.

FINAL

In crafting the final book cover designs, I photographed the watercolors to create a shadow effect. The shadow added a striking but subtle dynamic to the design. My intention was to ensure that the characters and colors remained the central focus, solidifying my decision to choose a minimalistic design with subdued hues.
