HIERR Project Logo

A logo for an organization aiming to foster connections between the private/public sectors and the community, with the goal of shaping a better Hawaiʻi.

The Challenge

The client requested a logo to enhance their recognition and credibility within the community.

The Solution

This project involved researching Hawaiʻi's vibrant history. I aimed to choose a symbol that reflected the diverse population and complex history while respecting cultural sensitivity. Selecting the right symbol posed challenges; some options were too focused on specific meanings or demographics, while others felt too generic or cliché. Balancing the logo to encompass Hawaiʻi's diversity and the organization's mission was a significant challenge.

ITERATIONS

I initially presented three logos, but they opted for none after seeing the final color version of the one they picked. Restarting the process, I generated two new concepts, but they still couldn't decide on either.

BRAINSTORM PROCESS

These visuals offer a snapshot of my creative process, displaying various art boards exploring different design concepts. They provide an overview of the iterative journey, from initial ideas to the final outcome, capturing the experimentation and refinement involved.

FINAL ITERATIONS

After another round of brainstorming, the concept of a Hawaiian quilt design utilizing a resilient native Hawaiian plant struck a chord with them, solidifying their final decision. I experimented with multiple versions.

FINAL LOGO

hierr logo

Hawaiian quilt patterns carry deep cultural significance in Hawai'i, representing a rich heritage of the islands. Just as the creation of these quilts involves a collaborative effort, with many hands working together to craft a single piece, the HIERR Project similarly relies on the voice of the community and other groups to ensure its successful implementation.

The aʻaliʻi plant, which is utilized in the quilt design, is an indigenous Hawaiian plant known for its remarkable ability to thrive and endure in challenging conditions. This resilience mirrors the HIERR Project's commitment to finding solutions that empower the people of Hawaiʻi to flourish and grow in the face of economic uncertainties.
